Nominee's story :
The Medical Devices Support Services is made up of 21 members, they work within a fully self direct team model in supporting all aspects of managing organisational wide medical devices. Over the period of 2020 and early 2021 they enabled the entire organisation to move its services and meet the challenges we are all aware off. The Team worked long hours, weekends and commitment to enable changes to meet the emerging clinical escalation plans. While many services were unable to function effectively and optimize solutions in the fast change process, the team(s) all functioned to exceed our patients, clinical teams and organisation managers. Examples: (1) Escalation equipment to enable max 74 patients to be ventilated and fully monitored from the organisation standard 14 beds ICU, (2) conversion of General Theatres Recovery Unit into a fully function ICU; (3) decommission a entire day surgery unit and Eye Surgical unit within a weekend and then put in place the medical device infrastructure for a Surge COVID receiving unit, (4) relocated the entire cancer inpatient services (ward and day unit to another geographical location in a weekend, (5) identify and design novel solutions due to limited supplies of devices, (6) support other services in managing PPE for front line staff - supply and support, enable the correct equipment to be available to protect staff, (7) Enable an off site facility (GREEN AREA) for delivery, storage and workshops for a COVID free location - store of 100x patient beds, 100x staff costs, monitors, ventilators and other devices for clinical escalation. The members of the MDSS worked within sound moral and ethical boundaries, they removed red tape and bureaucracy command and control structure to enable change to be efficiently delivered. The finer details of work and support made the difference. Team leadership excited staff, made then feel confident and their part they played in the entire program(s) of change. Trust across all levels of the team enabled individuals to stand up and take lead if they had the solution or best positioned. Further details of the Executive, Senior System Leads and Directors nomination for the team for the internal staff awards is attached.Supporting Documents
