Nominee's story :
Emma is a member of our lived experience group. She regularly attends focus groups and meetings to discuss projects and provide service user input in our co-production. She uses her extensive communication and English skills to help co-create documents ensuring they are legible and easy to understand for a variety of literacy levels. Her lived experience has ignited a passion to support other mums on their own mental health journey and she will often share her story to offer service user peer support. She has joined us speaking at various events with local universities, again sharing her story and key perinatal mental health messages in an empowering and supportive way. She has truly taken her experience and used it in a positive way to make a differenced to the lives of others. She is currently enrolled on a peer support training course and will continue to offer peer support voluntary to our service users. She has written blogs sharing her experience and will always get involved in our social media campaigns. She has great active listening skills, empathy and compassion, but more importantly, she offers our service users a method of support that clinical staff can't - she has that understanding and is a beacon of hope to mums currently struggling with their mental health. She advocates for those who may not feel confident enough to advocate for themselves. Her passion and motivation enthuses those around her and I know I would not have achieved half of what we have over the last 12 months without her. I am honestly so grateful to have met Emma both professionally and personally. She is a strong, courageous, honest, empathic, compassionate and determined individual who is a key volunteer, and absolutely an unsung hero.
