Nominee's story :
The build team have achieved miracles, getting hundreds of laptops built whilst working in very small bubbles, handling huge deliveries, arranging for the distribution and generally getting the entire BNSSG area GPs up and mobile within a very short time. They then got them set up for videoconferencing, fixed Wi-Fi issues in practices, and then did it all over again for the vaccination clinics.
Throughout this, they also kept up with the day job, keeping our CCG staff running too, getting all our new starters machines built, helping me get in hundreds of headsets, monitors, keyboards, mice, and even cables to get my 500 staff all comfortable at home so we could focus on our role in fighting Covid.
South Plaza has operated with a skeleton crew throughout the year and having the team coming and going as needed to meet the challenges has been very reassuring, even when they had their bubble "pop" due to a contact alert (false alarm thank god). They have been flexible, helpful, and absolute stars. We have had stock issues so bad we have literally run out of laptops and they have turned around a wipe and rebuild the same day so we can get our urgent project/vaccination roles filled asap.
Ruan Flood in particular has been an absolute star. He has been in every single day (unless awaiting a test result or needed at a vaccination or GP site), mostly on his own, and has kept his spirit and smile, even when he would have been perfectly within his rights to tell us to wait our turn, he has gone above and beyond to keep us going.
The whole team have been amazing, spending their Christmas and new year weeks crawling around Covid clinics with Wi-Fi boosters, laptops, and scanners, so not even a day was lost from the moment we got the go. They have turned meeting rooms and corridors into an efficient distribution centre Amazon would be jealous of.
They have masked up, gloved up, and done everything they could to support us all and without them I don't know what I would have done for this year. As office manager I've been the only member of CCG staff in at least twice every week to deal with our starters and leavers IT kit and it's been hard. And lonely. Having Ruan and the team be so friendly and helpful, even when I'm unavoidably making their lives harder, has been an absolute life saver and helped keep me sane and able to support my own teams as well. So I'd love for them to be recognised in some way as they have been my personal heroes this past year.
