Nominee's story :
This is a team to be proud of and I most certainly am.
Although they are not on the front line or having hands on patient care they are the key, the engines, wheels and cogs behind many a successful story in itself. The whole of our directorate came together so strongly and played to each of our individual strengths, to support each other and the whole organisation during this last year of the pandemic. Our role was so crucial making staff welfare calls, looking out for break points, supporting each other and so much more. The team worked so hard, going over and beyond with their empathy, listening skills, practical advice and implementation of solutions in this crisis to be flexible and responsive, therefore supporting patient care for people in the East Midlands. Although the team work flexibly anyway, many worked additional hours and covered evenings and weekends to ensure access to the team for advice and support.
The whole team adapted calmly and professionally to home working with immediate effect, adapting processes and ways of working to support the pandemic and working safely guidance. We changed and adapted smoothly and so quickly to holding some staff meetings, recruitment and education on line. This was all done in close partnership and discussion with our Trade Union Leads, as well as other stakeholders. In partnership with our Trade Union Colleagues we wrote the solutions jointly and whilst we challenged each other healthily across the specialist teams within our directorate, we stayed resilient, ensuring collaboration, communication and compassion in what we did. This was in relation to our approach in fast tracking recruitment and education, providing wellbeing and inclusion support, early resolution and employee relations matters and leadership support etc.
We focused on Recruitment (training once in), Wellbeing and Paying people, this helped us gain a ‘three-point check’ and structure when there were many urgent and differing priorities being thrown at us all. If it wasn’t in the three we gave ourselves permission to delay it! The teams worked so well together and gave each other peer support, as well as adapting to helping so flexibly with new projects or general requests across the organisation.
I am so proud to lead and work side by side with this team on a day to day basis, as well as serving and surviving, we succeeded and have still managed to make such progress over the last 18 months.
We certainly won’t forget the role we played at the time of the pandemic.
Thank you to each and every one of our team, what an achievement to be proud of.
