Nominee's story :
Steve's mother sadly passed away a little while back requiring him to take a week off work. On his first day back in the Gorse Hill workshops I arrived at work in the morning, but had some mechanicals problems with my car during my journey. This caused me some stress as I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to get home safely, or how I was going to get the problem fixed before I was due back at work the next day.
Without me even needing to ask Steve volunteered to give up his lunch break so that he could look at it for me - allowing me to concentrate on my paramedic duties. He was obviously struggling with his own problems, but still put others before himself.
By the end of his lunch break he had managed to fix my car, meaning that I could get home safely and didn't have to worry about how I was going to get to work for the rest of the week.
On top of this he was is always unfailing smiling and approachable and is generally a pleasure to work with. He does, however, desperately need a haircut.
