Nominee's story :

Kerrie is without doubt the most compassionate, kind and patient-centred medical secretary that I have ever come across. Nothing is too much trouble for her whether it be dealing with patients, their family, people referring patients into the department or nursing/medical staff looking to communicate with the team. Kerrie is always highly professional, discrete and courteous providing just the right level of information for callers to understand and always being willing to listen carefully to their queries and concerns. This is evidenced by the numerous and constant positive feedback I receive from patients about Kerrie. She is quick to appreciate when further input by other teams is required and works tirelessly to ensure patients/their carers are reassured that full attention is being given to their contact with us. She also takes great care to ensure the appropriate level of priority is given to written communication and phone calls to avoid over-burdening medical/nursing teams while at the same time being clear if there is a developing concern. Kerrie manages to always do this with a smile on her face and a "can do" attitude which has not diminished despite the increasing pressures of the pandemic. The NHS is highly dependent on the good will and hard work of people like Kerrie of which I know that there are many like her. However it is her enduring professionalism with a wonderful personal touch that is unwavering in all that she does which, for me, makes her the unsung heroine that she is.
