Nominee's story :
As Speech and Language Therapists working with children under 5, a large part of our role is to empower parents and carers to support their child's speech and language development. Covid meant that we could not do this face to face and internet connections and working with very young children meant that remote sessions were not always successful. We had the idea to develop a small range of videos to share key messages with parents/cares and other professionals. We had seen homemade videos in circulation, and whilst these were useful they did not always engage the audience and so outcomes were not always successful. Our MSc students worked closely with the Clinical Illustration team and used their expertise and enthusiasm to develop 3 key videos. Their knowledge and experience of developing videos ensured that they are eye catching, professional and easily accessible. They listened to the students ideas and took their vision forward. The students developed their ideas on paper and the team from Clinical Illustrations were able to bring them to life. Students and Clinical Illustrations had to overcome barriers such as the use of PPE if more than one person was in the video at a time. Clever editing, creativity, and the use of a puppet helped overcome this! The outcome is three high quality videos that far exceeded expectation. These have been shared via our Black Country website and with our colleagues and families. So far the videos have been accessed by parents/carers, education staff and members of the MDT. They are parent and child friendly, catchy, engaging and the editing ensures that they verbal message is reinforced throughout. The feedback has been excellent and parents/carers are feeding back that thanks to the videos they feel well equipped to support their child's speech and language targets. We are looking forward to developing further videos in the future. I have attached links to the amazing videos below.Supporting Documents
