Nominee's story :
Kate and Sarah are the glue that hold together the prostate pathway. They have an exceptional team camaraderie and proactive team spirit. They go above and beyond their role on a daily basis; an anxious patient calling to ask if their biopsy results are back will be reassured and their concerns listened to with kindness and understanding, or an MRI scan that has inadvertently picked up an urgent anomaly will be escalated and the clinicians alerted in addition to the safety nets already in place to ensure that the patient is not unnecessarily delayed.
Patients and their family members are treated with empathy and compassion and are viewed and respected as people, not numbers, and this is very evident in their day to day work ethic. Communication with colleagues and patients alike is exemplary; I know that if I or one of my patients have a query that one of them will answer the phone or an email and either have the answer or ensure that they find out the answer without delay. Patients will comment on their friendly demeanour and the positive impact that they have had on their experience during an emotionally challenging time. At no point do either Sarah or Kate convey to the patients just how much pressure they are under from the numerous challenges they face within their role.
During the covid pandemic Kate and Sarah remained in regular contact with the nursing team providing consistent and ongoing emotional support whilst they were redeployed; I am incredibly grateful for their kindness and compassion shown to myself during a very stressful and emotionally challenging time.
The team is a fantastic example of how good communication and leadership can and does work within the NHS and is something to be incredibly proud of. Kate and Sarah are invaluable team members and I feel very privileged to work alongside them.
