Nominee's story :

Wow! What an amazing team we have here at Liverpool Womens Hospital. Our Patient Access Team are our unsung heroes. They work tirelessly for the benefit of the Women and Babies of Liverpool and beyond ensuring they all get their appointments they need. We deliver over 8000 babies per year, over 150000 appointments and over 10000 operations. In addition, we are a level 3 Neonatal Unit caring for the most vulnerable patients in the region as a specialist Trust looking after some of the most complex patients in the North West. Since the pandemic our Patient Access Centre have had to adapt and change as they deal with significant patient backlogs to ensure our Women are seen in a timely manner. They go above and beyond with the care and dedication they show when supporting our women to ensure they get the care they deserve. When the Trust had a major incident at the end of 2021 they immediately, calmly and professionally contacted patients to ensure that we would keep seeing our Women in a timely manner. They have had to deal with the after effects of a pandemic whereby the NHS is working tirelessly to clear backlogs. Industrial action has been a huge challenge for the team as they have had to rearrange patient appointments often working late to ensure all the work is done. On top of that they have helped lead the implementation of a new IT system and they have taken it in their stride. Put simply they are the team that is the engine room of the organization and simply with their care and dedication those many thousands of women each year get their hospital appointments made for them with care and compassion, they demonstrate the true values of the NHS. I don’t know how they do it so well! I am proud that they work for us, constantly remaining positive when they have to be the first port of call for some of our patients who are at their most vulnerable. They come up with new initiatives and ideas themselves and absolutely champion their women! It would be a huge credit and honour for the team to be recognised through the Unsung Hero Awards in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
