Nominee's story :
I feel our orthopaedic admissions team are the unsung heroes of our department, going above and beyond on a regular basis, dealing with difficult situations and frustrated patients on a regular basis but always with a Jolly manner.
We are supposed to have a team of 5 but due to long term sick and covid we have realistically had a team of 3-4 over the past two years, Jackie and Tara have always stepped in to cover for the rest of the team and keep the system going putting in extra hours on a regular basis.
As with many trusts as a result of COVID we have lengthy waiting lists for orthopaedic procedures, as a result of this the booking team are often fielding calls from frustrated and often angry patients. They always respond in a caring and empathetic way trying to try to resolve patients queries and get their procedures booked as soon as possible.
As a result of multiple factors over the last year multiple surgical lists have had to be cancelled at short notice meaning whole lists of patients have to be re-booked, Jackie to proactive in seeking alternative solutions (outsourcing, extra lists and monitoring all consultants lists for gaps) to enable patients to get their procedure as soon as possible. On occasions when extra lists have been approved at short notice the team have stayed late to ensure patients are booked on to the list and the surgical time is best utilised to allow most patients to get their procedure.
