Nominee's story :

Our League of Friends is truly at the heart of our Hospital . They are made up of a large army of amazing volunteers with a very a very small team of paid staff , with Victoria Sugden at the helm On a daily basis they have a positive impact on our patents and the way we care for them . We can refer patients to them for assistance , for example funding for relatives to travel to see their loved one in Hospital . Clothing grants , specialist equipment's for patients use grants . It is not always in monetary ways that they help our patients and staff . They have previously arranged for a volunteer to come in to teach a patient basic computer skills. Another example of there above and beyond care is ,they have, typed up dictated notes , to assist a patient to preform his job as an journalist when as a newly injured patient he was unable to move his hands at all . This is a tiny snap shot of the way they adapt and find ways to overcome difficulties for our patients . There is nothing that you can think of that the League of Friends over the years haven't helped us to fund to to get involved with and supported us . On numerous times they have provided large amounts of funding for Hospital building and facilities improvements . They have also provided specialist equipment to be used in certain departments within the hospital, for example they provided a specialist surgical table for our operating theatres . A Specialist Harnessed walking hoist for our Spinal Injuries team . A zero gravity treadmill for our sports injury team and many many more vital pieces of equipment . They are currently fundraising for a garden area for our pediatric ward . Within the Hospital they always run a truly wonderful and very popular coffee shop , a extremely well used shop and also a Post Office which is used by Staff , patients and visitors and is a lifeline for staff working full time . Over the last 50 years they have raised over 20 million pounds for our Hospital.
