Nominee's story :

Natalie is an exceptional and indispensable member of our Virtual Ward / Ambulatory outreach team for Oxfordshire, and it gives me great pleasure having the opportunity to nominate her for the unsung hero award. I can think of no one better to receive this award. She has an incredible work ethic, is friendly with a positive attitude and goes above and beyond daily for the service and staff. Natalies role requires her to provide nonclinical /admin support for 2 Matrons, 2 Sisters and 3 separate services that make up the virtual ward for Oxfordshire: Hospital at Home / Hospice at Home and CARE – crisis care and rapid response. Natalie has worked part-time for the service for several years; she was shared with the Ambulatory Unit. Earlier this year she decided to join the Virtual ward team solely, and in doing so her impact on the service and team has been of huge benefit to all. Our service is at the forefront of the national drive to provide Hospital level care for patients in their own homes. Natalie is integral to this developing and innovative service. Her interpersonal skills, positive attitude, communication and input in the day to day running of the service is fundamental in the success and positive impact for our patients and their families the service is enjoying. We cannot discuss healthcare in these times without mentioning COVID. Our service provides Covid care, immunotherapy, phone and physical support for Covid positive patients at home. Covid has obviously had a huge impact on every aspect of healthcare, and we are no different, Covid continues to require timely and effective care for vulnerable patients and by the very nature of our service we have had considerable requirements put on our service. Natalie has been intrinsic in the running and development of this part of our service. Lastly but by no means least it is important for me to stress what a well loved and respected member of the team Natalie is. She is kind, caring and always looking out for her fellow colleagues. She is one of our wellbeing champions, offering support and regular check ins for staff. Birthdays, Christmas and social events are organised by Natalie, and she is the glue that keeps us all together. As heroes go, she is most definitely ours, and I believe that she deserves to be recognised and celebrated and so putting her forward for this award is a pleasure and one I hope will shine the light on our ray of sunshine.
