Unsung Hero Awards visits World Renowned Trust: The Christie
26th September 2018The Unsung Hero Awards team visited The Christie in South Manchester this month.
Our visit was brilliantly co-ordinated by the Head of HR Rebecca Patel, who ensured we met all sorts of interesting people and got the chance to tell them how to nominate their Unsung Heroes.
Like our visit to Alder Hey earlier in the month, we chatted with patients, relatives and Trust staff.
The atmosphere at The Christie was awash with positive energy and we met lots of potential Unsung Heroes! What stood out was how knowledgeable all staff were on their Award-winning Facilities and Departments. Many staff members also praised The Christie on what a truly great place it was to work.
The visit gave us the chance to find out the sheer variety of roles Non-Medical / Non-Clinical members of staff can have in a Trust….In fact, look out for a future blog where we interview Marguerita Gallagher (pictured below) from The Christie Cancer Information Centre and learn about her work as a Wedding Planner for patients at The Christie.

We were so pleased to see so many members of the public, as well as members of staff, wanting to know more about who we are and what we do. Word is certainly getting around that the Unsung Hero Awards is the only National Award to nominate and be nominated in if you work in a Non-Medical/Non-Clinical role within the NHS.
The Christie visit was part of our ongoing ‘Trust Tour’, which will continue to promote the 2019 Unsung Hero Awards to as many Trusts and members of the NHS as possible.
We came away from our visit with even more enthusiasm for this state-of-the-art hospital, and for the friendly, professional and truly caring individuals who work and volunteer there.
