The Only National Awards For Non-Medical / Non-Clinical NHS Staff & Volunteers

Mark Thorpe won the 2017 Unsung Hero award for spending his own money on prizes and karaoke equipment at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS FT. Incredibly, Mark works full time and takes holidays to help organise events at Sheffield Health and Social Care. His story resonated with our judges because it demonstrated an incredible commitment to his NHS volunteer work.

Mark receives no payment or financial reward for his volunteer work, and yet he spends his own money on prizes and karaoke equipment that the Trust do not have a budget for. His nomination text was spread across two pages – the longest we’ve ever received – and it was a real testament to his passion and dedication for his role.
